Mr. Hibberd has over 15 years of experience in business strategy and corporate development and is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Astute Medical, Inc. He also serves as a Non Executive Director on the Board of UK based Oxford BioTherapeudics. Prior to Astute Medical, he worked for 10 years at Biosite Incorporated, as SVP Corporate Development, where he was responsible for the identification and pursuit of strategic business opportunities including technology acquisitions, partnerships and alliances as well as for developing long-range strategic plans. Prior to joining Biosite Incorporated, he was manager at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and was responsible for leading international consultants and client case teams in developing and implementing value-creating strategies for businesses in a variety of industry sectors. Prior to that he held consulting positions at various companies and also was a development engineer for Albright & Wilson Americas from 1987 to 1990.
Mr. Hibberd received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto, Canada and earned an MBA from the University of Western Ontario, Canada.
Dr. McPherson has over 25 years experience in research and development and is the co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Astute Medical, Inc. Prior to Astute Medical, Inc. he was Vice President of Research and Development at Biosite Incorporated. During his 14 years at Biosite, Dr. McPherson played a key role in the development and commercialization of the Biosite Triage® Meter Platform and the Biosite Triage® family of point-of-care immunoassay products. He led a diverse 85 person research and development team to identify, develop and validate new biomarkers and successfully developed and launched 8 FDA-cleared products. He has over 25 issued and pending US patents in areas ranging from immunoassay readers to novel biomarker content in a variety of disease areas. Prior to Biosite, he was a Post-Graduate Research Physicist at the University of California, San Diego where he conducted and published research on the biophysics of photosynthesis.
Dr. McPherson earned a Ph.D. in Physics (Biophysics) from the University of California, San Diego and a B.A. in Physics from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Mr. Dotzler is a Managing Director of De Novo Ventures. Prior to co-founding De Novo, Mr. Dotzler was a General Partner at Medicus Venture Partners, a venture capital firm he founded in 1989. Prior to Medicus, he was a General Partner of Crosspoint Venture Partners. Among investments he has made during his career in venture capital are the following: medical device – Advanced Surgical Intervention, Biosite, Microvention, Senorx and Vitaphore; biopharmaceutical – Anergen, Applied Molecular Evolution, Bayhill, Favrille, Point Biomedical, Renovis, and Tularik; drug delivery – Anesta, Nektar; healthcare information – Informed Medical Communications, Omnicell.
Previously Mr. Dotzler held management positions in sales, marketing, acquisitions, and manufacturing with Millipore Corporation, Merrimack Laboratories, G.D. Searle & Co., and IBM. Mr. Dotzler received a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University, an M.B.A. degree from the University of Chicago, and an advanced degree in Economics from the University of Louvain, Belgium. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Astute Medical, Bayhill Therapeutics, Hemaquest, Senorx, Talima, and Vitrealretinal Technologies.
Mr. Blickenstaff is President, Chief Executive Officer and a Board Member of Tandem Diabetes Care. He joined Tandem in August 2007, bringing more than 30 years of healthcare experience in finance, marketing management, sales and strategic planning.
Prior to joining Tandem, Mr. Blickenstaff was Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Biosite Incorporated, a medical diagnostic company that was acquired by Inverness Medical Innovations for $1.8 billion in June 2007. Prior to founding Biosite, he held various finance, operations, research management, sales management, strategic planning and marketing positions with Hybritech Incorporated and Baxter Healthcare.
Mr. Blickenstaff has been active in the medical device and diagnostics industry over the last 14 years, serving on the board of directors for innovative, young healthcare companies such as SenoRx and MediVation Incorporated. He holds a Masters of Business Administration from Loyola University Chicago’s Graduate School of Business and a BA from Loyola University, Chicago.
Dr. Buechler, was most recently President, Chief Scientific Officer and co-founder of Biosite Incorporated. Dr. Buechler is a co-inventor of certain Biosite proprietary technologies, including the Triage® Drugs of Abuse Panel and the Triage® Meter Plus platform. From 1988 to 1994, Dr. Buechler was Biosite’s Director of Chemistry. Prior to forming Biosite, Dr. Buechler was a senior research scientist for the Diagnostics Research and Development Group at Hybritech Incorporated in San Diego. As a Senior Research Scientist, he was responsible for new product development and was the transfer project leader for ICON® QSR CK-MB, a cardiac marker assay. In addition, he was responsible for the design and synthesis of reagents for use in the first rapid, visual pregnancy test, the ICON® hCG test.
Dr. Buechler received his doctorate in biochemistry and his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Indiana University. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Biochemical Society, the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine and the American Association of Clinical Chemists.
Since 1979, Mr. Douglass has been actively involved in managing and investing in over 50 high growth venture capital backed companies, primarily in the medical device industry. He joined Delphi Ventures in 1990. Prior to joining Delphi, Mr. Douglass was a General Partner at Matrix Partners focusing on medical device investments.
From 1984 to 1986, Mr. Douglass served as Chief Operating Officer at Paladin Software Corporation, responsible for operations, R&D, finance and administration. From 1979 to 1983, Mr. Douglass was Vice President of Finance and Administration at Collagen Corporation. He was responsible for several private equity financings, as well as Collagen's initial public offering. Before joining Collagen, Mr. Douglass was a consultant with McKinsey & Company and a Teaching Fellow at Athens College in Greece.
Mr. Douglass is a trustee of the Stanford University DAPER Fund and is a member of the Stanford University School of Education Advisory Board. He has served as a director of the Stanford University Athletic Board. Additionally, Mr. Douglass is an Adjunct Professor at The University of Hawaii teaching New Venture Management and is a member of the Medical Industry Group of the National Venture Capital Association. Previously, he served as a director of the Western Association of Venture Capital. Recently, Mr. Douglass was named to the Forbes Midas List recognizing the top 100 venture capital investors.
Mr. Douglass received his MA from Stanford University Gradute School of Education, MBA from Standord University Graduate School of Business, and a BA cum laude from Amherst College.
Mr. Blair has been a Partner of Domain since its founding in 1985. Present board memberships include Cadence Pharmaceuticals, Cell Biosciences, Clovis Oncology, Inc., CoDa Therapeutics, Five Prime Therapeutics, GenVault, Helixis, Meritage Pharma, Microchip Biotechnologies, NeuroPace, and Zogenix. Mr. Blair has over 40 years experience with venture and emerging growth companies. In the course of this experience, he has been involved in the creation and successful development at the Board level of over 40 life sciences ventures, including Amgen, Aurora Biosciences, Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Applied Biosystems, Dura Pharmaceuticals, GeneOhm Sciences, Molecular Dynamics, Nuvasive, Pharmion and Volcano. A former managing director of Rothschild Inc., Mr. Blair was directly involved at a senior level with Rothschild/New Court venture capital activities from 1978 to 1985. From 1969 to 1978, he was associated with F.S. Smithers and Co. and White, Weld and Co., two investment banking firms actively involved with new ventures and emerging growth companies. From 1961 to 1969, Mr. Blair was an engineering manager with RCA Corporation, during which time he received a David Sarnoff Fellowship. Mr. Blair currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Prostate Cancer Foundation, and he is on the Advisory Boards of the Department of Molecular Biology at Princeton University, the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, the USC Stevens Institute for Innovation, and the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology.
Mr. Blair received his M.S.E. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S.E from Princeton University.
